Living books & literature

Ideas arrive best wrapped in story. We read books written by people who love their subject — not textbooks flattened into exercises — because a mind that meets an idea in a story keeps it.

Narration

After we read or work through something, the learner tells it back in their own words. Narration is not a quiz; it is the act of knowing. What you can tell, you own.

Games & logic

Play is serious practice. Games sneak in arithmetic fluency, strategy builds logical habits, and puzzles teach the most valuable lesson in math: being stuck is not failing.

Short, whole lessons

Attention is a habit we protect. Lessons are kept short and focused so the learner finishes while their mind is still fresh — ending with appetite, never with dread.

Why math, this way

Because why outlasts what

Most math trouble isn’t a math problem — it’s a meaning problem. A learner who has only memorized procedures has nothing to reach for when a procedure fails. But a learner who knows why borrowing works, why a fraction is a division, why the pattern holds, can rebuild anything they forget.

So we slow down and go deeper. We ask what the numbers are doing and why. We use imagination the way mathematicians actually use it — to picture what cannot yet be seen — and we let a well-chosen story or game carry an idea further than a worksheet ever could.

Math is the focus of my tutoring. Other subjects are considered case by case — if your learner needs help elsewhere, ask, and I’ll tell you honestly whether I’m the right fit.
